The Disaster Shield backpacks are a more comprehensive preparedness kit. They include a wider range of equipment and resources designed to support individuals or families through the critical first 72 hours of a disaster, whether you need to evacuate or shelter safely at home.
The Get Gone backpacks are designed as a lightweight, affordable evacuation kit. They contain the essential items you may need if you have to leave quickly, including food rations, bottled water, first aid supplies, lighting, hygiene items and basic emergency tools. They are designed for speed, mobility and simplicity.
In simple terms:
Get Gone – A lightweight, budget friendly kit focused on quick evacuation.
Disaster Shield – A more comprehensive kit with additional resources for broader disaster preparedness.
Both backpacks use the same durable waterproof pack and are designed to help households prepare for emergencies across New Zealand.
Crisis Bunker backpacks are designed to support you in a wide range of emergency situations. They contain essential resources for water, first aid, safety, warmth, tools and communication, which are the foundations of preparedness during most disasters.
The packs are suitable for events such as earthquakes, flooding, tsunamis, house fires, wildfires, cyclones, volcanic activity, evacuations and other situations where you may need to leave quickly or remain safely at home without services.
While each backpack contains a comprehensive range of gear, it is designed to remain lightweight and portable so it can be easily taken during an evacuation. The pack also provides space so you can personalise it with additional items that suit your household’s needs.
We have filled the backpacks with components that have a shelf life of a minimum 5 years if stored in a cool and dry environment except for the Hand Sanitizer, toothpaste and water purification tablets which will need to be rotated every 2-3 years. We offer a replenishment service where we will replace any expiring items with brand new items for a nominal fee. We will contact you prior to your 5 year purchase anniversary to discuss. If you need to replace anything sooner please contact us via email or livechat.
Our backpacks contain BDH High Energy Bars. Each packet contains two 120 gram bars, providing a total of 2385kj (570 calories) per packet. And most importantly they actually taste pretty good. Similar to a good old fashioned malt biscuit.
BDH High Energy Bars have a 20-year shelf life from manufacture. We source our rations new from the manufacturer so the bars we provide have a shelf life until at least 2040.
Ingredients: Wheat Flour 60%, vegetable oil (palm), sugar, glucose syrup, water, salt, raising agent: sodium carbonate, flavoring extracts. Please note these are not gluten free.
Crisis Bunker backpacks are available to purchase through our website and are couriered to addresses across New Zealand.
We operate primarily online rather than through a physical retail store, allowing us to supply households, workplaces and communities nationwide. Orders are packed and dispatched from our headquarters and delivered directly to your door.
Our backpacks are designed to be practical, durable and easy to use in a real emergency. Each pack is built around a heavy duty 40L waterproof backpack that provides more space and durability than many other options available in New Zealand.
Inside the pack, resources are organised into internal bags so items can be accessed quickly without having to empty the entire backpack. We have also ensured there is extra space available so you can add clothing or personal items specific to your household.
Every backpack includes a preparedness handbook in the front pocket, providing practical guidance on what to do during different disasters, how to access emergency communications, and a guided Emergency Planner to help your household prepare in advance.
We developed our backpacks using guidance from organisations such as Civil Defence and NEMA (National Emergency Management Agency), focusing on the essential resources people may need during an emergency. Each item was carefully selected and tested to ensure it is practical and reliable in a disaster situation.
Because every household’s needs are different, we also include guidance in our handbook on additional items you may wish to add to your pack. A key part of preparedness is having a clear emergency plan, so we have also included a guided Emergency Planner to help your household prepare and know what to do when an emergency occurs.
You will have received a 'First Steps' email after you placed your order. This will give you a step-by-step guide to completing your Crisis Bunker survival backpack such as charging your powerbank, downloading the First Aid app, and completing your Emergency Plan with your household. Now it's time to decide where you would like to store your backpack. The ideal spot is in or near your designated meeting area. It’s super important that you agree on this location and ensure everyone in the household knows. Finally, make sure you go through the kit, familiarise yourself with its contents, and test it out. We would love to hear your feedback so please pop us up a review on Facebook, Google or just email it through to us. We love seeing photos of our customers with their backpacks so tag us in your social media posts!
